About Safely Sleeved
Card protection explained from measurements and materials, not from opinion — with every factual claim traced to the manufacturer or institution that published it.
Safely Sleeved documents the accessories that protect collectible trading cards — sleeves, binders, toploaders, rigid holders, display cases and storage. Pages state sizes in millimetres, name the plastic a product is made of, and say what each item does not protect against.
Why this site exists
Almost everything written about card protection is a ranked list of products. Those lists rarely tell you the two things that decide whether a card survives: what size it needs, and what the plastic touching it is made of.
Both are knowable. Manufacturers publish sleeve dimensions and holder thicknesses. Conservation bodies publish guidance on which plastics are safe for long-term contact with printed material. Grading companies publish what they will and will not accept. This site is an attempt to put those published facts in one place, in a form you can check.
The result is occasionally unhelpful to product marketing. The standard rigid toploader is PVC by its manufacturer’s own description. Some binder pages are vinyl, which is also PVC. “Archival safe” is not a measurable standard, and the institutions that would define it say so. Those are all cited on the relevant pages.
How the content is written
One rule governs everything here: no measurement, material or compatibility claim is published from memory. Every figure is checked against a manufacturer listing, a grading company’s own documentation, a preservation institution, or a rules document published by the game’s publisher — and that source is linked on the page that uses it.
Where a claim cannot be sourced, it is not published. Where a source could only be reached indirectly, that is recorded rather than hidden. The methodology page explains how sources are ranked and what happens when they disagree.
Corrections are treated as part of the work rather than an embarrassment. Claims that turned out to be wrong are fixed and the correction is noted in the code comment next to the copy, so the same error cannot quietly return.
How this site makes money
It does not yet. There are currently no adverts, no affiliate links, no sponsored placements and no products for sale on this site. Every outbound link on these pages is a citation, and it is there because a claim depends on it.
That will change. The intention is to fund the site through affiliate links and, later, products. When it does, affiliate links will be labelled as such and kept separate from citations, and this section will be updated to say exactly what the arrangement is. A source you cannot distinguish from an advert is not a source.
What is not here
No price tracking, no card valuations, and no investment advice of any kind. This site covers protection and storage. What a card is worth is a different question with different sources.
No product rankings that are not grounded in a specification. Where two products differ in a way that can be measured, the measurement is given. Where the difference is preference — shuffle feel, artwork, brand — that is stated as preference.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, it should be fixed. Claims on this site are specific enough to be checked against the sources listed beneath them, which is deliberate — a page that cannot be falsified is not making a useful claim.
