Gamegenic
Gamegenic is a German accessory maker, Gamegenic GmbH of Essen, founded in 2019 and part of the Asmodee Group. It publishes something almost no other sleeve maker does: both the sleeve’s own size and the largest card that sleeve accepts, in millimetres, on every line it sells. Sleeves, pages and albums are stated as polypropylene, acid-free and no PVC. The toploader is the exception, and its material field reads PVC.
Two numbers on every sleeve, not one
Most sleeve listings give the sleeve’s own dimensions and leave you to work out whether your card fits inside them. Gamegenic gives both figures on every line: the sleeve size, and the largest card the sleeve takes.
That second number is the one that answers the question people are actually asking. A sleeve listed at 66 × 91 mm tells you nothing on its own about whether a sleeved card will then go into something else; a sleeve listed as taking cards up to 64 × 89 mm tells you what it was cut for.
Read the three standard-size lines together and the double-sleeving arithmetic does itself. The Inner Sleeve’s outside measurement, 64 × 89 mm, is exactly the largest card the Prime Sleeve accepts. The ranges are designed to nest, and the company says as much on the Prime page, which calls the fit “ideal” and “perfect for double-sleeving”.
- Prime Sleeves: 66 × 91 mm, for cards up to 64 × 89 mm, 100 per pack
- Inner Sleeves: 64 × 89 mm, for cards up to 63 × 88 mm, 100 per pack
- Thick Inner Sleeves: 64 × 89 mm, for cards up to 63 × 88 mm, 50 per pack
- Japanese Size Prime Sleeves: 62 × 89 mm, for cards up to 59 × 86 mm, 60 per pack
The micron figure is on some lines and not others
Gamegenic publishes a thickness for part of its range and not the rest, and the part it publishes is easy to over-read.
The Thick Inner Sleeves carry “Reinforced thickness: 100 microns”, and the description adds that “compared to conventional inner sleeves, these are twice as thick”. That comparison is against a figure the company does not publish: the regular Inner Sleeves page carries no thickness at all.
The same 100-micron figure appears on the Board Game Sleeves and on the 200-count Standard Card Game Value Packs. It does not transfer to the 100-pack Prime and Matte Prime sleeves, because Gamegenic ties the value packs to the Board Game Sleeves standard rather than to the Prime line, and the Prime pages state no thickness of their own.
So the honest summary is that two Gamegenic lines have a published thickness, one line has a published comparison to an unpublished number, and the flagship deck sleeve has neither.
The toploader is PVC, and the page says so
Almost every Gamegenic product page ends with the same line: acid-free, no PVC. It is on the sleeves, on the binder pages, on the Casual Album, and on the Slide Card Cases, which are polystyrene with a UV-protection claim.
The Premium Toploading Exoshield does not carry it. Its material field reads PVC. The holder is 76 × 101 mm, takes cards up to 35 pt, carries a UV-protection claim and ships with a removable protective film.
That is not a criticism of the product, and it is not unusual — every rigid toploader documented on this site is PVC. It is worth pointing at because the same company asserts the opposite on nearly everything else it sells, which makes this an explicit distinction rather than a gap in the paperwork. It is also the clearest single illustration of why a toploader is a transport format: the maker that tells you its sleeves are PVC-free is telling you, on the same site, that its toploader is not.
Albums, and which part of them is specified
The Casual Album is the one where the material that touches the cards is named. It is stated as polypropylene, with 20 side-loading pages of 18 pockets, a capacity of 360 sleeved cards, acid-free and no PVC, and an outside of 245 × 25 × 305 mm.
Capacity is quoted in sleeved cards and the page adds that it is optimised for double-sleeved ones, which is more useful than a bare count — a capacity that does not say which it assumes is a capacity for a binder nobody uses that way.
The Zip-Up and Prime albums describe the cover rather than the pages: a Nexofyber surface over a microfiber lining. The D-ring binders carry no acid-free statement at all and are sold without pages.
Nexofyber, Nexofyber+, Armorfyber and Hexafyber are trade names for cover surfaces, and the company does not say what any of them are made of. On a cover that never touches a card that matters far less than it would on a page, but it is worth knowing that they name a finish rather than a material.
Common questions
- What size are Gamegenic Prime sleeves?
- 66 × 91 mm, for cards up to 64 × 89 mm, 100 sleeves per pack. Gamegenic publishes both figures, so the second one tells you directly whether your card fits rather than leaving you to infer it.
- Are Gamegenic sleeves PVC-free?
- The sleeves, binder pages and albums are stated as acid-free with no PVC, in polypropylene. The Premium Toploading Exoshield is the exception: its material is published as PVC, with no acid-free claim on the page.
- How thick are Gamegenic sleeves?
- 100 microns for the Thick Inner Sleeves, the Board Game Sleeves and the 200-count Value Packs. The Prime, Matte Prime, Inner, Closable Inner, Japanese Size and Outer sleeves have no published thickness figure at all.
- What size Gamegenic sleeves do Yu-Gi-Oh! cards need?
- Japanese Size Prime Sleeves, 62 × 89 mm, for cards up to 59 × 86 mm, 60 per pack. Gamegenic names Yu-Gi-Oh!, Naruto and Cardfight!! Vanguard as the games this size is for.
- How many cards does a Gamegenic album hold?
- The Casual Album 18-Pocket is rated at 360 sleeved cards across 20 side-loading pages of 18 pockets, and the page states it is optimised for double-sleeved cards. Its pages are stated as polypropylene.
- Where is Gamegenic based?
- Essen, Germany. The company trades as Gamegenic GmbH at Friedrichstr. 47, 45128 Essen, is registered at the Essen District Court under HRB 30099, and describes itself as an Asmodee Group company that began in 2019.
